An Environment of Exchange

Valletta has been a place for exchange, both commercial and cultural, throughout its history as a port on a strategic crossroads in the Mediterranean. In V.18 though, we explore exchanges that go beyond those of history and geography.

V.18 asks how we can capture the imagination of Europe, raise our expectations of culture and view our traditions differently. How can we push boundaries to create new cultural forms, experiences and ways of life that can bring us greater well-being?

Our prospective European Capital of Culture (ECoC) year, while focusing on a place, isn’t just about what Valletta and Malta have to offer. It is also about what people can create with our ECoC to serve future generations.

V.18 sets out eight, draft themes on which to base our year’s programme.  They serve as fluid spaces for our environment of exchange.  It is your ideas, input and energy that will inspire and populate them.

See which appeals and which stimulates your ideas. Then get involved in building a V.18 project idea.
